NDAA Indefinite Detention Provision Mysteriously Stripped From Bill

WASHINGTON — Congress stripped a provision Tuesday from a defense bill that aimed to shield Americans from the possibility of being imprisoned indefinitely without trial by the military. The provision was replaced with a passage that appears to give citizens little protection from indefinite detention.   Original post on huffingtonpost.com    Comments on reddit.com

PolitiFact – Barack Obama says Mitt Romney would spend $2 trilllion that the military hasn’t asked for

With the country facing tough choices on spending and taxes, the defense budget, the largest single area of discretionary spending, plays a special role. In the first of three debates, President Barack Obama tried to pressure Mitt Romney on his defense plans, but the Massachusetts governor did not allow himself to be drawn in. Obama made at least four references to Romney’s goal to greatly ramp up military spending. Each time, he did it in the context of tax policy. “Gov. Romney’s central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut,” Obama said. “On top of the extension of…   Original post on politifact.com    Comments on reddit.com

Progressive insurance on defense after court case – SFGate

(AP) — The Progressive Corp. insurance group is defending itself against an onslaught of negative publicity after it tried to avoid paying $75,000 to the family of a client killed in a car crash and sought to blame the wreck on her. While Fisher didn’t quite anticipate the wave of support he received, he was sure others who learned about the case would be as shocked as he was that his sister’s own insurance company was going to such lengths to cast the blame on her for the accident. According to Cohen, it’s not necessarily unusual for an insurance company to go into court as an adversary of its client. Kaitlynn Fisher’s policy covered the actions of an uninsured or underinsured driver that caused injury or death up to $100,000. Because Nationwide had paid $25,000, the Fishers believed they were due $75,000 from Progressive.   Original post on sfgate.com    Comments on reddit.com

Wes Harris, Arizona Tea Party Leader, Seeks To Recall John McCain Over Huma Abedin Defense

Conspiracy theories about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin being linked to the Muslim Brotherhood publicly dribbled down to the lower echelons of conservative politics this week, with an Arizona Tea Party leader promising to launch a recall effort against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for his defense of Abedin. Last week, a group of Republican lawmakers led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) drew widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle for the loosely sourced contention that Huma Abedin, the Muslim-American wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.   Original post on huffingtonpost.com    Comments on digg.com

To Defend Today’s Job Report Obama Trashes Clinton Era

Obama’s bid for the Illinois State Senate occurred in 1996, which means that he’s trashing the results of Bill Clinton’s first term. Clinton ran for reelection in 1996 and won in a walk, largely due to an economy that was thriving. Whether you credit Clinton or the Republican Congress (I credit both) for the economic boom of the 90s, for Obama to trash 1996 as a time when the middle class felt the dream all slipping away is not only nonsense to those of us who lived through it; it is also factually untrue.   Original post on breitbart.com    Comments on digg.com

Megaupload Demands Return of Millions of Dollars From U.S. Govt. – TorrentFreak

Megaupload is challenging the U.S. Government’s possession of millions of dollars in assets it seized from the company and its operators in January. The newly-filed and eye-opening motion slams the U.S. for holding the defendants liable for alleged offenses that aren’t even a crime, ignoring laws designed to offer them protection, failing to provide any detail whatsoever on alleged infringements, and pushing U.S. law far beyond its borders.   Original post on torrentfreak.com    Comments on digg.com
